Wrestling roundup: Area girls show out

Wilton Women’s Tournament- Mt. Pleasant, Mid-Prairie, WACO
Mt. Pleasant’s Abby Blint picked up a first place finish in weight class three. She won by decision in her first match, 6-2. She then defeated Hannah Beintema of Bettendorf and Saidee Hamilton of Tipton both by fall in just over one minute.
In weight class two, Ella McNamee ended the tournament with a second-place finish. McNamee won by fall in her first match. She was then defeated by Maddie Kirby of Williamsburg by decision, 7-3, before bouncing back pinning Illesia Carter of Bettendorf.
Emma Novinger finished third for the Panthers. She was defeated by fall in both of her matches.
Mid-Prairie had a successful tournament. Out of the eight girls that competed, four picked up first place finishes. Three finished second and one third.
Gabi Robertson finished first in her weight class after winning by decision, 8-4, then pinning both opponents in her final two matches, including a 50 second pin to take first over Sarah Martyn of Dubuque Senior.
Grace Conway found herself in the weight class seven finals after picking up a 10-5 win and a fall in the second match. She then won by injury default in her final match against Norah Giza of Bettendorf.
Bronwyn Brenneman, placed first with a pin in her beginning match of wight class 14, injury default in the second, and fall over Anamosa’s Ava Scranton.
Madison Kelly won by fall in her first two matches in weight class 20 before winning by decision 4-0 in her final match against West Liberty’s Nellie Stagg.
Mia Garvey, Emil Harmeston and Ali Bolanos both finished second in their perspective weight classes.
Marissa Cline ended her tournament with a third-place finish at weight class 18.
WACO had three girls participate in the tournament, picking up first, second and third place finishes.
Grace Fort finished first pinning all three of her opponents. She defeated Maelyn Wainwright of West Liberty in the finals.
Bralyyn Wagler, ended with a second-place finish after winning by fall in her beginning match before losing by decision in the final match.
Heaven Steege finished third, with losses in her first two matches, before winning by fall against Ava Garcia of Williamsburg.
Regina Invitational- Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant, Pekin, Sigourney-Keota, WACO
The Trojans of Fairfield had three wrestlers finish second in the tournament. Zach Westercamp at 126, Theodore Metcalf at 195 and Tarence Craig at heavyweight.
Carson Coleman, 126, of Mt. Pleasant picked up a first place finish after winning all four of his matches, defeating Luke Guseman of West Branch 3-2 to stand a top the podium.
The next highest placer for the Panthers was Bowen Davis, 138, who defeated Logan Keeler of West Branch by fall, placing third.
Two wrestlers placed for Pekin. Nolan Greiner, 160, ended the tournament with a third-place finish and Blake Juhl, 170, finished fourth.
Sigourney-Keota had a slew of wrestler pick up first place finishes.
Aidan Schuster won by a 5-4 decision over Christopher Waikel of Iowa City, Regina to finish a top the bracket at 182.
Zachary Smithart defeated Tarence Craig of Fairfield by fall to finish first overall at 285.
Cade Streigle, 195, picked up first with a 12-9 win over Theodore Metcalf of Fairfield.
Reanah Utterback found himself with a first place finish after winning by decision, 7-2, over WACO’s Gage Samo.
Cade Molyneux and Reid Molyneux both finished second.
WACO had three wrestler end the tournament at the top of the bracket.
In the 220 final, Jonah Clark defeated Iowa City, Regina’s Ronan Poynton by major decision 13-3.
Louden Huisenga won by fall in his 145 pound final. He defeated Carter Rios of Iowa City, Regina.
Larz Smith, 138, finished first after going the distance, winning by decision, 7-2 over Reid Molyneux of Sigourney-Keota.
Gage Samo, 106, was the next highest placer at second.
Fort Madison Invitational-Washington, New London, Columbus/WMU, Highland, Van Buren County
For Washington, Aaron Boone was the highest placer at 113, finishing first after pinning Liberty’s Jacob Spoor in less than a minute.
The Lopez brothers were the only two Tigers to pick up fist place finishes in the tournament.
Marcel Lopez continued his dominance, defeating Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Jonah Hallam by tech fall 27-12 in the 126 pound final.
In the 160 final, Dominic Lopez defeated Burlington Notre Dame’s Samuel West by decision, 9-5.
Josh Glendening was the next highest placer for the Tiger, finishing second at 182.
Columbus/WMU had just one top place finisher.
Lane Scorpil, 120, finished first, pinning Ottumwa’s Corbin Grace in just over three minutes. The next highest finish was Ty Scorpil, who finished third at 113.
For Highland, Carlos Valenzuela placed the highest. Valenzuela ended the tournament with a second-place finish at 132 pounds.
Brant Tedrow was the highest placer for Van Buren County. Tedrow picked up a third-place finish at 220.
Saber Invitational- Mid-Prairie
The Golden Hawks had two wrestlers finish first and two others finish second over the weekend.
Mose Yoder finished first at 106 after pinning Devon Jones of Moline in just over one minute.
At 170, Kaden Meader ended at the top of the podium with a fall in under a minute over Elston Lindner of Central DeWitt.
Cael Garvey, 195, and Terry Bordenave, 220, each picked up second place finishes.
Lynnville-Sully Dual Tournament- Cardinal
The Comets finished 1-4 in the dual tournament. They defeated Collins-Maxwell 52-18, but lost to Baxter, Colfax-Mingo, Lynnville-Sully and Moravia.
