Wrestling roundup: Warriors prosper, Panthers struggle

BGM Holiday Duals — WACO
The Warriors performed well in the competition. WACO finished the competition with wins over BGM, Collins-Maxwell, and Tripoli. They were defeated by Wilton and Moravia.
Against BGM, WACO picked a 60-18 victory. WACO got wins early from Jonah Clark at 220 and John Rice at 285.
After two double forfeits, Gage Samo, 113, added another six points with a win over BGM’s Levi Roberts.
BGM scored over half its points in the next two matches at 120 and 126.
WACO would go on to take the next seven, three of which were BGM forfeits. At 195, BGM would get one last win.
Against Collins-Maxwell, the Warrior finished with a 66-18 victory.
WACO got 48 points from eight forfeits. The Warriors saw victories from Louden Huisenga at 145. Huisenga defeated Collins-Maxwell’s Blake Huntrods by fall. Alja Eremic pinned Hunter Lee of Collins-Maxwell at 160 pounds. At 106, Gage Samo pinned Collins-Maxwell’s Zach Haus.
The Warriors third win was a 48-30 final over Tripoli.
Along with six forfeits, WACO got wins from Grace Fort, who defeated Tripoli’s Nicole Williams. Lane Bachman defeated Aubrie Kingsburry at 120. Larz Smith, 145, and Louden Huisenga, 152, gave WACO 12 points back-to-back falls.
Tripoli went on to win at 160,170 and 182 before forfeiting at 195 and 220.
WACO lost a tight one against Moravia. The Warriors fell 43-36.
WACO saw wins from Drew Diers, a forfeit at 195, Jonah Clark and John Rice at 220 and 285, to begin the competition.
In the next five matches, at 106,113,120,126, and 132 Moravia would score 28 points.
Larzs Smith and Louden Huisenga would continue to wrestle well, grabbing two more wins at 138 and 145.
The Warriors dropped the next three matches at 152, 160 and 170, before Kris Boone defeated Moravia’s Cameron Nicoletto at 182 to end the dual.
WACO’s final loss came from the hands of Wilton, 56-18. Gage Samo gave the Warriors three points with a 5-4 decision over Wilton’s Owen Adlfinger.
Wilton grabbed five straight wins at 113,120,126, 132 and 138.
Louden Huisenga put the Warriors back on track with a 8-4 decision victory over Garrett Burkle at 145. Braden Spain then pinned Wilton’s Damian Pestle at 152.
The Warriors would then struggle once more, losing six of the final seven matches. Jonah Clark added a final six points for WACO at 220 with a fall over Tyrrell Hughes.
Nike Duals — Pekin
The Panthers struggled in duals against Notre Dame, Wapello, and West Branch, losing all three.
Pekin was scoreless in the dual against Notre Dame, 72-0. The Panthers forfeited seven matches, one of which was a double forfeit.
Notre Dame then defeated Pekin in all six of the matches wrestled.
Forfeits would also plague the Panthers throughout the other two duals.
Against Wapello, the Panthers fell 54-18.
They forfeited six total matches. Pekin picked points from Wapello forfeits at 152 and 170. Nolan Greiner also added six points with a fall against Garen Wilkerson.
The Panthers lost their dual against West Branch 54-18.
With seven total forfeits, Pekin gave up 42 points. With two forfeits from West Branch and a Blake Juhl fall over West Branche’s Jaxson Kaalberg the Panthers were able to pick up 18 points.
