WASHINGTON — Washington senior Ethan Zieglowsky has been a top bowler in the Southeast Conference ever since he first stepped into the high school lanes. On Wednesday morning, he let everyone know where he would be taking his next step.
Zieglowsky, fresh off a trip to the 2022 state tournament in Waterloo, signed his letter of intent to attend and bowl at William Penn University at Washington High School, surrounded by family and coaches.
Zieglowky said, the decision to choose William Penn was easy.
“It really didn't take a long time,” Zieglowsky said. “When I went on a visit there, it was another sense of home.”
Zieglowsky was once again the top bowler on the Demon squad this season. He finished third place in the SEC bowling meet this year, rolling a 425. It was his fourth time finishing in the Top-3 at the conference meet.
First-year head coach Jason Farmer was on hand, and he talked about Zieglowsky’s importance to Washington bowling.
“It's been a great journey with the Demon bowling team this year, and working with Ethan,” Farmer said. “He's an amazing young man, a great person, and he's obviously a talented bowler.”
Zieglowsky followed that with a 634 at the state qualifying meet, a mark that put him in the Class 1A state individual tournament. At state, he finished in a tie for 16th.
“That environment was something special,” Zieglowsky said. “When they announced the final scores at districts, that was the biggest relief of my entire life.”
Zieglowsky will be joining a William Penn squad that just finished second out of seven teams in the Heart of America Conference Championships. The Statesmen finished first in the 2021 conference meet.
While at school, he plans on studying Enviornmental Studies, with plans to become a State Conservation Officer, stating it’s a job he has wanted to do ever since he was a little kid.
