Mitchell Zieglowsky couldn’t have bowled a better game.
The Washington sophomore got his season off to the best start possible, rolling 12 strikes in a row for a perfect score of 300 against Burlington on Tuesday. His game helped the Demons defeat the Grayhounds by 420 pins, finishing the night with 2,806 to Burlington’s 2,386.
Zieglowsky, who smashed his previous high game of 240, is the Demons top returning bowler this season. He finished ninth at least year’s Southeast Conference meet to earn All-SEC honors.
His second season is off to an even more promising start. Zieglowsky racked up 483 pins to lead the Demons over the Grayhounds.
“Watching his brain learn that there are different things that he can learn vs. just throwing a ball is really different to see,” Washington coach Mackenzie Martin said at a media event last Thursday. “A lot of kids don’t catch on to the full strategy behind everything. A lot of kids are just thinking yeah, you’re are throwing a bowling ball at the lane. They’re not looking at the fact that there’s oil, there’s different marks, there’s different speeds and all the different things that they can learn.
“So he is definitely learning where he needs to be with that, what adjustments need to be made, and he’s not just throwing the ball anymore.”
Freshman Kaeden Zear was second for the Demons on Tuesday at 419. Zear got his high school career off to a strong start, which included bowling high game of 216.
Senior Cooper Zahs rolled the team’s third-best score at 373. Junior Kellton Burke rolled a 357.
Freshman Mason Pierce finished at 298. Junior Landen Lee Hawkins rolled a 223.
Washington (1-0) will look to keep things rolling in its next contest. The Demons will participate in the Fairfield Bowling Triangular on Dec. 1 along with the Fairfield and Centerville. The triangular will start at 2 p.m. at Flamingo Lanes.
