At the library: New fall displays

By Bryna Walker, Washington Public Library Director

As we enter fall, the Washington Public Library is transforming into displays in our windows of pumpkins, fall leaves, and new books! Last year we received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Iowa Center for the Book. The grant, entitled “Earth’s Bounty in Iowa: Then and Now” is to engage rural Iowans in informational and entertaining books. Stop by the WPL to enjoy the display, and check out some of the selections to read.

In October, stop by and ring the doorbell or make an appointment to come in and “express browse” for 30 minutes our children’s fall books or new adult books. We continue to recommend curbside pickup as the safest way to check out books from the library as we continue quarantining books after touching for four days.

Curbside requests can be done by emailing a librarian or calling 319-653-2726. Patrons are enjoying that they are able to reserve books through our online catalog on our website www.washington.lib.ia.us. Click on the catalog tab and then you will just need to enter your patron number and last name to get into your account to reserve what we have in. You may also place a hold on a book. Also, look at our amazing children’s catalog on our website. These catalogs are brand-new this summer to us and we love that there are pictures and summaries of all of the books in the catalog for patrons!

For the month of October, we will continue to have computers, printing, copying, and faxing available by appointment daily Mon-Sat. Check out our new technology called Envisionware Remote Printing. We are excited to offer this to the public as a way to print and pick up curbside.

All you need to do is download the app “Printer On” for remote printing. After downloading the app, search the ZIP code 52353. Then, the Washington Public Library will come up as an option to select for remote printing. Next, choose the document you’d like to print and send it to the library.

Finally, give us a call at 319-653-2726 or email reference@washington.lib.ia.us at the library to let us know when you’d like to pick up the document curbside. We will then release the document to print and have it ready for you at your designated time! It is a great time saver and very convenient since it can be done from literally anywhere. Copies and printing are 10 cents per page or $1.00 per page for color. We look forward to serving Washington County with our activities and fall book bundles in the month of October. Join our Facebook Page and event email list so you don’t miss out on the upcoming programming opportunities for children and adults.
