Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Jefferson County has decided to forego in-person summer day camps for 2020. Instead, they have announced a virtual day camp option, 4-H Clover Crates. This will be in addition to the 4-H On the Go kits that include one lesson and are distributed weekly through the end of July.
The 4-H Clover Crates provide an opportunity for youth to experience summer day camp learning with kits that include multiple lessons for more learning, more hands-on activities and more fun! The 4-H Clover There is a charge for the crates. Payment is due at the time of pick-up.
Upon registering, families will have their choice of pick-up location. Options include Lincoln Elementary from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Jefferson County Extension Office during business hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Fairfield Public Library during business hours on Tuesdays, and Pilot Grove Savings Bank in Packwood from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Spots are limited. Registration is due the Wednesday preceding kit pick-up.
Sprouting Up Science and Zombie Survival will be the two Clover Crates offered to youth who have completed 4th-8th grades. What’s Inside a Seed, Pollinator Power, and Wonderful Weather are just a few examples of activity topics with the Sprouting Up Science Clover Crate, offered the week of July 13. When you receive the Zombie Survival Clover Crate during the week of July 27, you will learn how to live without electricity, make a survival bracelet, make homemade hand sanitizer and more as you prepare for “what-if” situations.
Busy Bot and Art Attack will be offered to those who have completed Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Work through the engineering design process with a mini hexbug to complete challenges such as Maze Craze, Bridge Builder, and Cargo Puller with the Busy Bot Clover Crate, offered the week of July 20. The Art Attack Clover Crate, offered the week of Aug. 3rd, will include topics such as Color Creation, Lots of Layers, and Shape-O-Saurus.
Registration will be done online at https://tinyurl.com/4HCloverCrates. This link will allow you to choose which Clover Crates you would like to receive, as well as your preference of a pick-up location.
