Washington's Fleur-de-Lis club meets

Nancy Kimmel was hostess for the Oct. 24 Fleur-de-Lis Club meeting. Members met at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Park Community Center on the square in Washington. President, Nancy Kimmel presided over a short business meeting. Roll call was answered with each member telling “if they were going to dress up for Halloween, what would it be?” Several members brought a Halloween costume or mask.

Linda Birney, secretary and treasurer, read the minutes of the September meeting and gave the treasurer’s report. In place of a Christmas exchange, members were reminded to bring money for the collection to be taken up at the next meeting. Also, there was some discussion as to what the club might wish to donate their money. Come with ideas to the November meeting. An invitation will be sent to a prospective member to join the club.

Theresa Hora announced she will host the Christmas luncheon on Dec. 12 at 12:30 p.m., so mark your calendar. Members are to bring a salad and table service will be provided. Members are asked to bring money for their donation to the Christmas gift and ideas. Nancy closed with a quiz with members naming wives names of different professions.

Nancy Kimmel also was in charge of the program. She had gone on a 10-day bus tour, Sept. 29–Oct. 8 to the New England states. She had a variety of post cards and pamphlets from the various stops to and from. This tour was through Elite Bus Tours out of Lincoln, Nebraska, with stops along the way for pick up with Nancy and friend joining the group in Coralville, Iowa.

Some of the attractions were four train rides including a dinner train and a mountain climbing train. Other attractions enjoyed were a tour of a maple syrup factory, a marble museum, JFK Library, Gondola sky ride, and a meal in the Pennsylvania Amish area. She especially enjoyed Castle in the Clouds located in New Hampshire. This was a 16-room castle located on 5,500 acres with 28 miles of trails, seven waterfalls and brightly colored trees of the area.

Following the meeting, Nancy served refreshments and members enjoyed visiting before departing for the afternoon.

The next meeting will be Nov. 21, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. with Lynda Garrard and Orcas Garrard as hostesses.
