AINSWORTH — A dozen tractors have been parked in a field in the 2200 block of Yucca Avenue in Ainsworth in honor of Memorial Day.

Duane Rarick, a veteran himself with 20 years experience in the National Guard, collects the Allis-Chambers tractors. Now retired, he attends auctions to collect parts and pieces and put them together, always expanding his collection.

“Now that I’m retired I have more time to work on them,” he said.

Rarick often drives his tractors in town during parades and plans to bring one to the tractor parade on June 6. His “newest” tractor is a 1934 Allis-Chambers which he is currently working on fixing a rim for.

With two of his uncles and his brother Dave also being veterans, Rarick said displaying the vehicles was a way to both show off his collection and pay tribute to those who served before him.

“Instead of going to the cemetery, they can come here,” he said.

A member of the Wayland Tractor Club, Rarick said he had a dozen people out Monday to check out his collection. Another man drove 54 miles just to see it, he said.

The collection will be on display for the next few months and all are encouraged to stop by.

“There’s a lot of people who are veterans that retire and look for something to do. This is just another way of doing it,” he said.
