WASHINGTON — With cool, fall weather settling in Washington, residents can warm up in area businesses while receiving chocolates and discounts.
The Choctoberfest in downtown Washington started on Thursday. Through Friday, people can get sample candies at stores in downtown Washington for the chance to unwrap discounts and possibly $100 in Chamber Bucks.
Participating stores are excited to see customers and give out candy.
The 11 stores participating are Jaz it Up!, Café Dodici, Don’s Jewelry, Brown’s Shoe Fit, Earthly Blessings, iTech/KCTC, Needle $ Thread, New Attitude, The Village, JP’s 207 and Repurpose It.
Each store had a different candy and different discounts. There are Ghiradelli Chocolates, Dove Chocolates, full sized Hersey bars and more.
At iTech/KCTC, customers can pick up a random plastic pumpkin around the store to win either a holiday treat or savings on items in the store.
Many businesses said the event is a good way for the businesses to take part in the community while bringing customers in.
“It builds a great relationship with the community,” Alison Greiner said at Jaz it Up.
Gerry Farrier at Earthly Blessings said the store likes to be active with the different stores, and overall it is a fun time. Customers can get a random discount based on a color-coded sticker on Hersey candies.
At Don’s Jewelry, Karen Kuhlman said they wanted to promote their new products and partner with the Chamber. A 10 percent discount is given during the event.
On Friday, Repurpose It! will be giving away kids kits and have a savings candy wheel.
JP’s 207 and Café Dodici are having specials on drinks. You can get a $4 chocolate martini or white Russians and a $2 hot chocolate at JP’s. At Café Dodici, there are $5 Nutella martinis.
On their own spin of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory golden ticket, the Chamber has placed three golden stickers on candy that reveal a Chamber Bucks prize of $25, $50 and $100. The pieces of candy are at three random participating locations.
