Driver arrested for OWI after allegedly striking two vehicles

MT. PLEASANT – A Mt. Pleasant man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he allegedly struck other vehicles in two separate incidents on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision at 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of East Washington Street and South Porter Street, and learned that one of the vehicles was involved in another collision earlier that morning.

A silver 2006 Hyundai Elantra owned and operated by Levi Iglehart of Mt. Pleasant drove into the Hy-Vee parking lot. While attempting to park, Iglehart struck a parked car, a silver 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUV owned by Robert Byczek of Mt. Union. The jeep was unoccupied at the time it was struck.

The jeep suffered damage to its front, and parts of the Hyundai were left behind. Iglehart went inside the store and came out a short time later, leaving the parking lot driving west on Washington Street.

Iglehart then allegedly struck another car near the intersection of Washington and Porter streets. A gray 2012 Volkswagen Passat owned and operated by John Becker of Mt. Pleasant was driving west slowing down for a four-way stop. Iglehart allegedly struck Becker’s car from behind.

Officers arrested Iglehart and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol (third offense) and taken to jail. A report from the police department indicates that Iglehart was at fault in both collisions and that further traffic citations are pending.
