MT. PLEASANT — Caryl M. Stern, executive director of the Walton Family Foundation, was recognized with the 2020 Belle Babb Mansfield Award.
Stern received the award during Iowa Wesleyan University’s annual Belle Babb Mansfield Symposium, where Stern was the featured speaker. The honoree provided a virtual Q&A with students and an evening lecture for community members as part of the symposium.
The university recognized Stern as “a person of strong social conscience whose leadership through word, action, and service embodies the spirit of Arabella “Belle” Babb Mansfield.”
“Stern’s work at the Anti-Defamation League, UNICEF USA, and the Walton Family Foundation has contributed to a more humane world. Her example inspires all through courageous leadership, generosity, and dedication,” the school said.
The presentation of the award was part of a week of events which included the dedication of the Belle Babb Mansfield statue on the university’s campus as a site of the National Votes for Women Trail. The trail of sites across the country was established in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
