MT. PLEASANT — ATV/UTV riders in Henry County still will not be able to legally ride their vehicles on county roads after the supervisors voted against adopting an ordinance at its Tuesday meeting.
Last week, the supervisors heard from a group of supporters who wanted to see the ordinance adopted. A petition with 574 signatures of people in support was presented. Members of the group reported the signatures were gained within the last two weeks and asked the board to rethink its decision to not move forward with an ordinance.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10 supervisor Greg Moeller stated he looked back through the petition and found there were only 281 county residents that signed. The rest were either out of county or out of state residents.
When no one from the general public spoke up for or against the adoption of an ordinance, supervisor Gary See made the motion to adopt an ATV/UTV ordinance for the county, but it was struck down by a vote of 1-2 with supervisors Marc Lindeen and Moeller voting in opposition.
