A Washington resident, Tiffany Poland, was cited on June 5 for leaving the scene of an accident/failure to provide aid or information. This was in reference to an accident reported on June 3 at South Iowa Avenue and East Van Buren Street in Washington. A court date was set for 9 a.m. on June 20.
A caller Tuesday morning at Highway 22 in Kalona reported a vehicle-vs.-deer accident. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle operator was Daniel Eachus, of Wellman, who was going to make contact with a tow truck. He was advised to fill out a state accident report if damages amounted to more than $1,500. The deer was off the roadway along with all debris. Documentation was made.
A caller Tuesday night at Highway 218 and 175th Street in Riverside reported that he struck a raccoon on Highway 218 near Mile Marker 74, on the southbound side. He had front left-side damage to his 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. Documentation was made for insurance.
An illegally parked vehicle was reported, Tuesday night at B Avenue in Kalona. The owner was given a verbal warning.
A deputy reported being out with a motorist with a flat tire, Tuesday afternoon at 170th Street and juniper Avenue in Wellman. The officer provided assistance.
A deputy reported being out with a semi, Tuesday night at 220th Street and Highway 218 in Ainsworth. The officer advised that the operator did not need assistance.
Kairon McClenahan was cited for dogs at large, in reference to a June 3 complaint about loose pitbulls at East Main Street in Washington. A court date was set for 9 a.m. on June 27.
A caller Tuesday afternoon at East Main Street in Brighton reported a horse in a trailer for two days. An officer responded. This was a different horse from the one during the weekend. The owner just got back from the farrier and would be putting the horse into a pasture.
A caller Tuesday night at South Sixth Street in Kalona reported that the dog at a nearby residence had been outside for the past two hours, and was unsure if it had food or water. An officer could not get close to the dog. It had a bowl, but the officer couldn’t see if there was anything in it. The officer was going to attempt to locate and speak with the owner.
A caller Tuesday night at West Madison Street in Washington requested assistance with a child exchange. An officer responded and assisted.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Tuesday afternoon at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that her four children were out of control because of their getting a divorce. Four officers responded and spoke with the entire family. The children left with their father.
A caller Tuesday morning at East Washington Street in Washington requested to see an officer at the main bank in reference to a fraud. An officer responded. The report is under investigation.
A caller Tuesday afternoon at Juniper Avenue in West Chester requested to speak to a deputy about a scam situation. An officer responded and spoke with the caller. Documentation was made.
Hang-up 911 calls
An open line 911 call with no answer on call-back was reported, Tuesday night at Wayland Road in Washington. An officer responded. There was no emergency.
A caller Tuesday evening at East Second Street in Washington reported that they could not locate their child. An officer responded and was disregarded. The child was located safe at the residence.
A caller Tuesday evening at East Second Street in Washington reported that youngsters on bicycles were riding out into the street. There was a small child running in the roadway, as well. The caller requested an officer. An officer spoke with the parents of the children.
A caller Tuesday afternoon at First Street and Ninth Avenue in Wellman requested a welfare check on two young children on the bridge south of Wellman. An officer responded and made contact with the parent, who retrieved the children.
All other theft
A caller Tuesday night at E Avenue in Kalona reported a gas drive-off of $30.12. An officer responded. It was unintentional, and they would return to the business.
All other offenses
A caller Tuesday evening at East Sixth Street and North Second Avenue in Washington reported that someone left a black bicycle in their neighbor’s yard to the north. The caller requested that an officer pick it up. An officer took the bike to the bike shed. It was a single-speed white and black Huffy bike and was rusty.
An officer reported being out conducting an interview on an inmate who didn’t show up for her mittimus, Tuesday evening at Lexington Boulevard in Washington. A report will be filed.
A caller reported to an officer that juveniles were breaking glass, Tuesday night at South Sixth Street in Kalona. The officer spoke with the juveniles, who advised that they had permission to be there. Documentation was made.
