The City of Kalona’s power outage on Monday was due to something unknown making contact with a power line.
The outage affected Richmond, Kalona and Riverside and around 15,000 customers were out of power for 39 minutes.
Recently, Alliant Energy workers have been in the area updating lines to double capacity and help with reliability.
Alliant spokesperson Mike Wagner said when working on power lines, the company sets the breakers to be triggered if anything comes in contact with the lines. This is so people do not get hurt, he said.
One the lines were checked and nothing was harmed, the power was reset.
Though Kalona has had a variety of power outages recently, Wagner said they are all unique situations.
