Mt. Pleasant Fire Department investigating origin of two-story house fire

MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department is continuing to investigate a fire that consumed the upper level of a two-story house early this morning. There are no reported injuries related to the fire according to a news release from the department.

The department was called to the scene at 705 E. Madison at approximately 12:30 a.m. At the time of their arrival, the house had already been vacated.

A crew of 20 firefighters detected flames in a bedroom on the upper level of the structure, which spread to the house’s attic. The department was on scene for upward of two-and-a-half hours, and used two command vehicles, three engines and an aerial platform to fight the fire, according to the release. Currently, the department still is working to determine the origin of the fire.
