MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Tractor Club celebrated Fourth of July with a ride around Henry County. More than 30 members joined the procession, which started in Mt. Pleasant and traveled to all local nursing homes in the town, before making its way to Salem, Lowell and New London.

“It was a really good ride. We just thought to celebrate, it’d be nice to go by the nursing homes and whatnot,” Marvin Johanson, a member of the club, said.

Usually, the tractor club takes part in several July Fourth parades, including the ones held in Wayland and Mt. Pleasant, but with the cancellation of usual activities, the club decided to organize its own event.

“Several of our members are veterans, and they asked ‘Why can’t we just have a tractor ride?’” Johanson said.

Many club members were excited to partake in the ride.

Bruce Moore said he enjoyed visiting the nursing homes in the area. “It was nice driving by and waving,” he said.

Eric and Kim Strothman added they were excited to take part in the ride as part of the club.

“It’s just a fun thing to do,” Kim said.
