Learning: 100 percent in-person, online option available
Face Coverings: Required for most
The New London Community School District will be moving ahead with 100 percent on-site learning beginning Aug. 18.
Families not yet ready to have their student return can apply to participate in the district’s Family Choice hybrid model. The district will “provide eligible students with online learning taught by a certified New London teacher through a web camera experience.” Each teacher will have a webcam to stream their lessons. The district notes there is flexibility in a family’s choice, which can be changed if needed later in the school year.
Each student will be assigned a Chromebook, which can be taken home if the district moves to exclusive online learning at any point in the year.
Face coverings will be required of students and staff when social distancing is not possible. The face coverings will be required for fourth through 12th grades and encouraged for pre-K through third grades. The plan notes there will be specific instances and times where coverings will be required for younger students.
The district will provide three masks to each student and staff member as well as a face shield for every staff member. The district is requiring students and staff to get temperature checks before reporting to school.
To help further mitigate spread, a heavy emphasis will be placed on cleaning procedures and each classroom and school bus will be sanitized twice a day with sanitizing machines.
If the district moves to a hybrid model, students will be split into a.m./p.m. cohorts and will receive instruction 50 percent on-site and 50 percent online. The district will determine a.m./p.m. groups following registration.
