North English man killed by airborne deer, crash under investigation

SIGOURNEY — A North English Man was killed Wednesday night after another vehicle struck a deer, it went airborne and crashed through the windshield of a passing car.

According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, at approximately 7:04 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, a 2016 Toyota Camry was being driven by an unnamed driver westbound on Highway 92 near mile marker 203 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the north ditch. The deer went airborne and crashed through the windshield of the 2013 Nissan Sentra driven by Donald E Burdick, 45, of North English, who was traveling eastbound.

Burdick was wearing a seat belt, but was struck by the airborne deer. The victim was transported to the Keokuk County Hospital by Keokuk County EMS and was pronounced dead, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Keokuk County Sheriff’s office and Keokuk County Fire.
