Beginning Sept. 23, a portion of Old White Way Road (G-52), east of U.S. 218 and southeast of Ainsworth, will be reduced to one lane of traffic.
The Washington County Engineer’s Office announced Wednesday that the traffic will be reduced for approximately 20 working days while contractors extend a box culvert.
Project Engineer Kelly Farrier said that the project includes extending the box culvert – a square concrete structure that serves as a small bridge – will be extended 25 feed downstream.
“The shoulder of the road is basically sliding away,” Farrier said. “We will extend the box culvert 25 feet and shore up the shoulder.”
In addition to the box culvert extension, the project includes associated grading and seeding.
While the work is being done, the westbound lane will be closed to traffic.
There will be traffic signals set up to direct traffic during the project.
The work will take approximately four weeks, weather permitting, Farrier said.
The project is part of Washington County’s five-year road improvement plan.
Iowa Bridge and Culvert of Washington was awarded the $198,170 contract.
