Police arrest Mt. Pleasant man following hourslong standoff

A Mt. Pleasant man is in custody following a standoff with police on Sunday morning.

At 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Mt. Pleasant police were called to the 200 East South St. trailer court to investigate a report of a woman who had run into a neighbor’s home, then had been dragged back out by a man.

The witnesses told police that the woman made a comment about being tied up by the male, who police later identified as Chadley Yeakley, 48, of Mt. Pleasant.

Officers located the subjects in Lot 49 of the trailer court but were unable to make contact with the subject.

Officers subsequently entered the trailer, where Yeakley had barricaded himself and the victim in the back bedroom.

Officers reported that Yeakley had a knife and refused to let the victim leave the room.

They spoke with Yeakley for about 90 minutes, and Yeakley then released the woman, who was immediately transported to the Henry County Health Center for treatment for unspecified injuries.

Yeakley continued the standoff with officers, refusing to drop the knife or surrender.

He eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail, where he was held pending arraignment.

Yeakley was charged with domestic abuse – display or use of a weapon, kidnapping, willful injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Mt. Pleasant police were assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Henry County Health Center ambulance crew.
