Washington County Ambulance will remain the service provider for Washington County as Supervisors voted to approve their contract at their last meeting.
The current contract with Washington County Ambulance expired on June 30, 2019, which prompted supervisors to put out a request for proposal (RFP) for different service options. After review, the supervisors retracted the RFP.
Currently, the county pays $14,450 a month, or $173,400 for the fiscal year. Under the new contract, set to begin July 1, 2019, the county will pay $20,000 a month or $240,000 for the contract from July 2019 to June 2020.
The decision was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors by a vote of 4-0 with Supervisor Richard Young abstaining.
In other news, Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius explained the county was looking to enter an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) for safety funds awarded last December.
Thorius explained the $60,000 awarded was part of a grant they applied for last August and will allow for the purchase of portable stoplights and traffic signals to be used in work zones. Henry and Keokuk counties were also on the grant and will share the equipment as needed.
“We don’t need them every day, so we figured we could work together,” he said.
Thorius said they have had similar sharing agreements in the past with no problems and the funds would be available July 1.
