MT. PLEASANT — With From the Heart Flowers and Gifts’ recent opening, Mt. Pleasant residents now have a new place to stop and smell some roses.

The flower shop on East Washington Street, run by Tena Chiles and her mother Linda Van Fleet, opened Oct. 5 and held a ribbon-cutting with the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance Wednesday morning. The store plans to have a fall grand opening this weekend.

Chiles, who previously owned a flower shop 15 years prior in the Ottumwa and Fairfield area, is excited to be back in business in Mt. Pleasant.

“I know [Mt. Pleasant] lost a flower shop, so they were a flower shop down, and I had a lot of people requesting I do this thing again … I love Mt. Pleasant, I think it’s a great town. It’s really authentic,” she said.

Chiles said From the Heart is a full-service flower shop that provides flowers for every occasion including weddings, funerals and birthdays.

“I love the fall season. I’m excited to be here and help people decorate their house,” she said.
