Fairfield received a neat honor in late December when the website Matador Network named it one of the “coolest towns in America to visit in 2021.” Fairfield came in at No. 3, behind No. 2 Ocean Springs, Miss., and No. 1 Biddeford, Maine.
The website describes Fairfield as “half Sedona vibes, half Asheville vibes,” and remarks on the many ways in which the town has put itself on the map.
Fairfield is world famous for being the center of the transcendental meditation movement, including a university structured around the technique, plus it has become known in more recent years as “Silicorn Valley” for its numerous startup ventures and technology firms.
Fairfield is home to great history, such as having the first Carnegie library outside of Pennsylvania and hosting Iowa’s first state fair.
Matador Network reviews some of the restaurant offerings in town and remarks on Fairfield’s “funky coffeehouses, art galleries and cideries.”
“Realistically, there is not a quintessential Fairfield experience — the thing to do here is simply to shatter your own presuppositions. And then meditate on it,” the website says.
