As I write this, I am looking forward to voting. I’m not sure what the results of the election will be, but what I do know is that no matter what happens God will still be in control.
Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that “The human mind may devise many plans, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will be established.”
I need to hear these words in the midst of all of the fighting between different political parties. We have differing points of view; we do devise many plans, but in the end, God’s hand is still leading us, as a nation, and in our individual lives.
We can count on this. Romans 8:28 states that “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.”
We know, we can be sure, that God’s hand will continue to lead and guide us.
And if you are not convinced yet, let’s turn back to the book of Proverbs where we hear that “The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
It’s a time when many people are filled with fear. There’s a reason that one of the most used phrases in the Bible is “fear not.” We need to hear it over and over again.
When the people of Judah were in exile in Babylon, filled with fear, the prophet Isaiah brought a message from God. God tells the people, “do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
One of the beautiful things about God’s Word, is that the truths are timeless. What was written to the people of Judah applies to us today. God is telling us not to fear, God is with us. God is in control.
The prophet Jeremiah also had a word from God for the people in exile. “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Surrounded by these words of Scripture we do not need to fear about the future. The future of our country, the future of our loved ones, our own future. We have a future filled with hope. For God is still in control.
