Thursday games in the Union area of high school basketball saw Columbus win in overtime for its second triumph of the year.
Columbus 66, Lone Tree 65
This Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division boys game at Columbus Junction saw the Wildcats outscore the visitors 17-7 in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime at 57-57.
Eric Valdez poured in 36 points with four rebounds, four steals and three assists in the victory. Mason Hodges added 12 points and Brody Frost 11. Jaime Villegas pulled down 12 rebounds.
Mid-Prairie 76, Anamosa 54
At Wellman, four Golden Hawks reached double figures in scoring in the River Valley Conference win with Brad Tornow hitting for 17, Aidan Rath 16, Carter Harmsen 12 and Ethan Trimpe 10.
Burlington 68, Fairfield 55
“It was a great start by our guys, leading 15-8 at one point in the second quarter,” FHS coach Mick Flattery said.
Drew Martin had 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals while Trojans teammate JJ Lane scored 14 points and Max Weaton 13 in the Southeast Conference loss.
Pekin 50, Hillcrest 26
In a girls North game at Pekin, Sophie Wittrock and Emilee Linder each notched 14 points in the win. Kerrigan Pope added 12 points. Erika Coleman had seven rebounds. Wittrock had four assists and three steals.
Esther Hughes led Hillcrest with 10 points, two assists and two steals. Yani Gutierrez added eight points to go with 11 rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. Sarah Miller added 6 points.
Mid-Prairie 71, Anamosa 35
In this RVC girls home game, Myah Lugar scored 23 points and had seven rebounds with three assists in the win for the Golden Hawks. Amara Jones dished out six assists and scored nine points. Colby Rourke notched nine points.
