WAPELLO — Three Union area coverage teams competed in the Willard Howell Invitational on Saturday. In a tournament that included 10 total teams, Sigourney-Keota took fifth, with 129 points. Mt. Pleasant tied for seventh with 82 points, and Highland took 10th, with 38 points. Wilton won the invite with 160.5 points.
S-K used one champion and two second-place finishers to help carry their team to a fifth-place finish. Jack Clarahan took the top spot at 152 lbs., pinning Wilton’s Kaden Shirk in 3:41 in the championship match. Mason Dye took second at 126 lbs., falling 8-4 against Wilton’s Kael Brisker in the final. Nate Schuster took second at 170lbs., falling to Tri-County’s Cael Hester by a 21-11 major decision in the championship match.
Mt. Pleasant had one second place finish. Corbin Broeker took the silver at 113 lbs., falling in 3:31 against Travis Hodges of Davenport West in the final. Tyler Raub was third place at 138 lbs., and the quartet of Davis Bowen (120 lbs.), Carson Coleman (126 lbs.), Irvig Chayse (160 lbs.) and Samuel Carrasco (220 lbs.) all took fourth.
Highland had two second place finishes on the day. Easton Schlabaugh took silver at 106 lbs., falling to Jaxon Bussa of Camanche in 5:37 in the championship match. Cael Yeggy took second at 195 lbs., falling on a 10-2 major decision against Tyreese Johnson of Davenport West in the title match.
