BROOKLYN — The high school track season was canceled due to the coronavirus but athletes will still have a chance to race when the Iowa Track and Field Carnival will happen Tuesday July 7 at BGM High School in Brooklyn.
Entry to the event is limited to athletes that were in grades seven through 12 in 2020.
There is an entry fee of $15 for one to three events with all net proceeds donated to the Track Guy Foundation.
Athletes will compete as individuals as no school uniforms will be allowed, nor will coaching from high school coaches. No one should arrive in a school vehicle.
Gates to the facility will open at 2 p.m., with field events starting at 3 p.m. and track events starting at 6:30 p.m. Hip numbers will be issued to athletes when checking in for a specific events. Participants will be asked to leave the track promptly after each event.
Starting blocks will be provided and disinfected after each race. Shot put and discus throwers must provide their own implements. No sharing will be allowed.
Drinking fountains will be turned off so participants must bring their own water. Coolers with food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome as are lawn chairs and umbrellas. There will be no concession stand.
Bleacher seating will be limited to 50 percent capacity. Wearing of masks will not be required, but is encouraged and social distancing is expected.
Restrooms will be open.
There will be no medals or ribbons awarded.
Health and safety will be stressed. Participants and fans will be expected to practice social distancing.
