Columbus sails past Highland

After Highland picked up big recent wins over Washington and a ranked Winfield-Mt. Union team, Columbus defeated the Huskies Tuesday in local softball play.

Wildcats take down Huskies

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — The Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division saw a Columbus team rise up for a 6-1 win over Highland.

The winning pitcher was Libby White with four strikeouts, two walks and five hits allowed. Emma Milder went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double.

Jocelyn Fulton went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.

“The girls played phenomenal defense,” CHS head coach Katie Coil said. “We limited our mistakes and didn’t throw the ball around.”

Jenna Sands and Sarah Burton each had two hits for the Huskies. Grace Batchellor and Jessica Kraus tossed three innings each and combined for four strikeouts, no walks, eight hits and six earned runs.

Wolves blank Ravens

WINFIELD — It was a rough night for the Hillcrest Academy offense in this North game. Winfield-Mt. Union ace Madie Anderson shut the Ravens down and led the 13th-ranked (Class 1A) Wolves to a 6-0 victory.

Anderson struck out 16 batters over seven innings and gave up just one hit. Third baseman Sarah Miller had the only hit of the night for the Ravens.

W-MU scored two runs in the third inning and four in the sixth. Emma Haines led the way, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kayreanna Sharar went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Melina Oepping was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Carlee Sloan finished 2-for-4.

Leah Bontrager took the loss in the circle for Hillcrest, giving up six earned on 12 hits and one walk, while striking out two batters over six innings.

No. 2 Falcons down Pekin

PACKWOOD — The second-ranked Class 2A Louisa-Muscatine team got the North win 12-0 over the Panthers.
