KEOKUK - The Washington High School boys soccer team won a Southeast Conference match Tuesady over the Keokuk Chiefs, 6-3.
The Demons moved some athletes from their normal positions in the victory.
Daniel Marcelino played all 80 minutes in goal and had 14 saves.
Ben Baughman has played the majority of minutes in goal this season.
“We wanted to rotate players and Ben has some great passes, hustles, and sets up offense,” Washington coach Sally Hart said.
Zacary Stout scored in the second minute to set the tone with an outside shot near midfield.
Keokuk responded in the 19th minute for a 1-1 tie game at halftime.
The Demons took the lead back in the 57th minute with a goal by Pascual Mendoza off an assist from Caleb Suchan.
Keokuk evened it up about halfway through the second half.
Washington went up 3-2 when Luciano Marcelino found the net 5 minutes later.
The Demons expanded the lead to 4-2 with a goal by Gabe Zimmer off a Mendoza assist.
Keokuk tried to come back with a goal with 11 minutes to go to make it 4-3.
Washington answered with another goal from Mendoza off a Levi Rohrassist.
Late in the match, Rohr took a shot from about half field. It knocked off the goalkeeper’s hands and Fabian DeJesus got the rebound and netted it for the final goal.
Washington has a 3-10 record, 2-5 in the league with a home game Thursday against Fairfield.
