EBF gets revenge on Comets

ELDON — The Cardinal softball team scored a thrilling win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont last week, defeating the Rockets in an extra-inning thriller, but EBF got vengeance on Wednesday night, defeating the Comets 13-5.

The game was tied 1-1 after one inning, but EBF scored the next five runs. The Rockets put up one run in the third and four in the fifth to take a 7-1 advantage after five frames.

Cardinal pulled together a minor comeback in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to cut the lead to 7-4, but EBF exploded in the final inning, outscoring the Comets 7-1 in the seventh to run away with an eight-point win.

The Comets only had one RBI out of their five runs scored. Ella Thompson finished 1-for-4 with the team’s only run batted in.

Three Comets had multi-hit games. Caitlyn Reber was 2-for-3. Rachel Lewman went 2-for-4, and Lydia Moses was 2-for-2. The team’s only extra-base hit was a double from Kassidy Verrips, who finished the night 1-for-4.

Verrips took the loss in the circle, giving up six runs (two earned) on 10 hits and two walks, while striking out seven batters over five and one-third innings. Ava Ferrell let in seven runs (five earned) on five hits over one and two-thirds innings of work.
