WILLIAMSBURG — The Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant wrestling teams traveled to Williamsburg for the Raider Invitational on Saturday. The Trojans took fifth out of six teams with a final tally of 91.5 points, and Mt. Pleasant took sixth, with 89.5.
The top indidivual record from the area was Mt. Pleasant’s Carson Coleman, who won the 126-pound bracket.
Coleman dominating the day. He defeated Fairfield’s Jace Hannes and Ben Sirdoreus on back-to-back technical falls, and had his third tech fall in a row over Ty Becker of Williamsburg. Coleman had to grind out a 2-0 decision over Pella’s Ryan Hancock in the fourth round, and ended the day by defeating Fred Kammiller of Western Dubuque on a pinfall in 1:41.
Mt. Pleasant’s Sam Carrasco took second at 220 pounds. Carrasco lost 3-0 to Fairfield’s Cesar Smithburg in the first round, but won three of his next four matches, pinfalls over Pella’s Jordan De Ruiter, Grinnell’s Skylar Green and Williamsburg’s Cale Fenton.
Mt. Pleasant also had two third place finishers. Gannon McNamee took third at 120 pounds. Bowen Davis was third at 132 pounds, and Frank Tousignant was third at 285.
Fairfield had two third place finishers on the day. Sirdoreus took third place at 126 pounds, and Cohyn Roach took the bronze at 138 pounds.
Siroreus went 1-2 in his first three matches but battled back for two-straight wins to take third. He defeated Western Dubuque’s Kammiller, 12-6, and knocked off fellow Fairfield 126-pounder Hannes by disqualification to clinch the bronze.
After falling in his first match, Roach defeated Williamsburg’s Isaac Club 20-4 for a technical fall. He followed that by moving on with a bye, and then defeated Mt. Pleasant’s Reean Seberg by pinfall at 3:11. He lost his next match 6-5 against Pella’s Peyton Ritzert.
Mt. Pleasant will be back in action this Thursday when they host Burlington. The Trojans will be at home on Saturday when they host the Southeast Iowa Classic.
