Fairfield takes 2 from Pekin

PACKWOOD — The Fairfield High School softball team, Class 4A’s sixth-ranked team, upped its record to 20-1 with a 4-1 and 6-2 sweep of the Panthers (7-6) Friday.

In the 4-1 win, Hannah Simpson went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Fairfield teammate Allison Rebling and Delaney Breen each accounted for one RBI. Destiny Gridley had a double. Rebling threw a complete game with 13 strikeouts, one walk and one hit. The run was unearned.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Trojans scored twice, adding two more in the fifth. Pekin scored its run in the bottom of the fifth.

Danielle Breen led Fairfield in the 6-2 win with a 3-for-4, two RBIs night at the plate. Peyton McCabe was 2-for-4. Coty Engle threw 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts, eight hits, a walk and two earned runs. Rebling threw the final four outs with three strikeouts.

This game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Fairfield scored three in the top and Pekin answered with two in the bottom.
