PELLA — Just two of the Union Area coverage teams were in action at the Central College meet on Saturday but both schools were prevalent at the top of the pack.
Mid-Prairie swept the trophies in the small school class, taking first place as a team and individually. The Mt. Pleasant girls finished third in the big school race, taking the top individual spot along the way. The Panther boys took 10th in the big school boys race.
Mid-Prairie was led by defending state champion Marie Hostetler, who won the race in 18:12.3. Hostetler had plenty of teammates on hot her tail, with all seven varsity runners placing in the top 11.
Abbagail Evans was the third Hawk to cross, finishing in 20:44.3. Mitzi Evans was fourth, in 21:04.7. Sydney Yoder finished fifth, in 21:16.4. Angela Evans was eighth, in 21:39.6. Ana Fleming took ninth, in 22:02.2, and Jaden Yoder finished 11th, in 22:23.8.
The M-P boys placed all five scorers in the Top 10, led by Thaddeus Shetler, who won the race in 17:31.9.
Jamison Stutzman was fourth overall in 17:48.9. Chandler Hershberger was fifth, in 17:50.1. Lucas Bontrager was seventh, in 18:32.7. Nathan Wallington was ninth, in 18:40.1. Mose Yoder took 19th, in 19:25.7, and Luke Albright placed 30th, in 20:22.1.
The Mt. Pleasant girls were just 11 points off second-place North Polk in their race. Norwalk had all seven in the top 12 to win the meet.
Abby Ryon paced the big schools, winning the big school race in 19:19.2. She was one of three Panthers in the top 15, with Abby Blint taking 11th, in 21:53.1, and Maggie Jennings taking 13th, in 21:59.8.
Cristina Carthey finished 27th, crossing in 23:03.9. Monroe Swain was 34th, in 23:56.7. Belle Meador finished 35th, in 23:59.8, and Claire Holtkamp finished 39th, in 24:34.8.
Nick McCormick had the best time for the Panther boys, finishing in 19:03.3. Logan White (19:23.6) and Luke Ryon (19:32.7) were the only other two Mt. Pleasant runners within 20 minutes.
Logan Lee finished the race in 20:2.2. Nate McWilliams crossed in 21:04.5. Levi Mills finished in 21:15.1, and Gabe Geldmann crossed the tape in 22:13.6.
