Hartwick's 21 not enough for Tigers

NEW LONDON — While most girls basketball teams were playing their season openers on Tuesday night, New London was already on its third contest of the year. After splitting games over the weekend, the Tigers dropped their first Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division game, falling 56-44 against Holy Trinity.

HTC led the game 16-7 after one quarter, 27-18 at halftime and 40-22 after three periods. New London’s best quarter was the fourth, when the Tigers lit it up for 22 points to cut the final deficit to 12 points.

Marah Hartrick had her best scoring game of the season so far, putting up 21 points to lead the team. Ashlyn McSorley filled the stat sheet with 14 points, six steals and four assists.

Keaura Williams scored four points on the night, and also led the team with seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Natalie Burden scored three points, and Sophie Malott finished the night with two.

The Tigers are now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. They will next host WACO on Thursday, Dec. 4.
