Highland's Thompson wins title at L-M

LETTS — Highland had the lone area champion at the Louisa-Muscatine Invitational Saturday. The Huskies finished sixth in the team scores while Van Buren County was 10th, Washington 11th and WACO 12th.

Bryce Thompson of Highland won the title at 113 with a technical fall, a 2 minutes, 24 seconds pin, and a 5-4 decision.

Easton Schlabaugh of Highland was pinned in 52 seconds in the title match at 106. Fourth place at 120 was Jack Peiffer (13-16) of Highland and T.J. Jirak (10-21) of Van Buren County was fifth.

At 126, Carlos Valenzuela (18-7) of Highland finished in fifth with a 3:18 pin of Korbin Camp (11-14) of Van Buren County.

At 138, Jacob Miller (15-14) of Washington gave up a pin 1 second before his match for third place ended.

At 145, Darrin Coffman of Van Buren County (15-13) won the third-place match with a pin in 3:10.

Chase Greiner of Washington was fourth at 160.

Washington’s Ayden Frazer (11-5) was decisioned 4-0 in the title match at 182 by Belle Plaine’s Chase Wickwire (18-4).

At 195, Washington’s Curtis Stender (7-15) was fifth and Keanu Miller of Van Buren County (3-10) was sixth after Stender pinned him in 1:56.

Brant Tedrow (21-6) of Van Buren County placed second at 220, losing the title match 14-6 to Kobe Simon of West Liberty (29-3). Eli Slaymaker (7-11) of Highland was fifth.

Landan Provino (3-8) of WACO defeated Josiah Westercamp (12-19) of Van Buren County in a 9-1 major decision before an injury sidelined him. Westercamp placed third at 285, Provino fifth.
