FORT MADISON — Playing Holy Trinity in the regional tournament and especially not on the road, but that’s the reality the Highland volleyball team faced on Wednesday night.
The eighth-ranked Crusaders swep the Huskies 3-0 in their Class 1A Region 8 quarterfinal, ending Highland’s season and sending HTC on to the next round.
The Huskies reached double-digits in two of the three games against the heavily-favored Crusaders. HTC won sets 25-15, 25-11 and 25-4.
Highland’s loss at HTC snapped a two-game wining streak. The Huskies closed the regular season out against Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division rival Lone Tree, when they beat the Lions in three sets. Highland swept that same Lone Tree team six days later in the regional opener.
HTC will not host No. 14 Notre Dame in the Region 8 semifinals. If the Crusaders win that game, they will play either No. 10 Lisbon or WACO in the regional final next Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant.
