Indoor season opens for MP, Washington girls

CEDAR FALLS — Indoor track season began on Monday for the Mt. Pleasant and Washington girls track teams. The Panthers and Demons competed in a stacked field at the Dickinson relays, hosted by the University of Iowa.

Mt. Pleasant had a nice day at the track. The Panther girls picked up eight top-35 finishers.

The top marks of the day went to Abby Ryon in the 1500-meter run and Avery Sutteri n the 200-meter dash. Ryon crossed the finish line in the 1500 in 5:09.37, and Sutter ran the 200-meter dash in 27.84 seconds for 15th. Sutter was also top 20 in the 60-meter dash, where she finished 19th place, in 8.32 seconds.

The 4X400 team of Maggie Cristoforo, Ryon, Kendall Dascher and Kenna Lamm took 17th in their relay. The team picked up their top-20 finish after crossing the line in 4:26.07.

The Panthers’ 4X800 team of Cristoforo, Maggie Jennings, Ralyn Seberg and Dascher finished in the top 20 as well. The 4X800 team took 18th place with a final time of 10:45.40.

Mt. Pleasant’s 4X200 team took 29th overall. The squad of Kenna, Sydney Doak, Karsyn Lamm and Sutter crossed the finish line in 1:56.07.

Serenity Keomanivong took 31st in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the tape in 10.28 seconds. Jennings picked up a 32nd-place finish in the 2:38.10.

Washington didn’t place anybody in the top 35, but had one relay team not too far behind. The Demon 4X800 team of Voss, Fillinger, H. Reese and Hinson took 45th place in 11:50.76.

The second best result for the Washington girls came from the 4X200 team of L. Marek, Beenblossom, Kleese and O. Marek. They finished in 62nd place with a time of 2:03.63.

Also cracking the top 70 for Washingon was Klinzman in the 60-meter hurdles. She took 66th, in 10.73 seconds. Marek placed 68th in the 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in 1:09.
