Iowa Wesleyan softball continues spring trip

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. — The Iowa Wesleyan softball team was back at it on Monday with two more games as part of their trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Tigers split games, shutting down Penn State-Fayette 5-0 before falling 3-2 against Brevard College.

Morgan Christner was in the circle against Penn State-Fayette, and once again she was basically unhittable. Christner struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings and allowed five hits, a walk and zero runs. She nearly had a complete-game shutout, but Keelyn McNamee came in to record the final out.

Christner also had a nice day at the plate, going 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Emilee Rooney went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI.

Allison Daum was 1-3 with an RBI in the win. Taylor Johnson went 1-3 with an RBI as well. Breanna Mettler was 1-3 with a double, and Emma McDanel scored one run.

The Tigers held a 2-0 lead after three innings against Brevard College, but the Tornados rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Tigers would never score again.

The Tigers had just three hits in the loss to Brevard College. Kayla Ford went 1-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Tigers in the loss. McDanel was 1-3 with an RBI, and Rooney went 1-2 with a run scored.

McDanel was tagged with the loss in the circle, giving up three earned runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out four batters.

IW fell 1-0 in their first of two games on Wednesday. Stats for that game were not available at presstime.
