EUREKA Ill. — The Iowa Wesleyan basketball teams dropped a couple of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games on Saturday at Eureka College. The men fell 70-64 and the women dropped their game 94-62.
The Tiger men looked good early, leading by as much as eight points before taking a 38-32 lead into halftime. IW didn’t relinquish the lead until a 3-point play by Dakota Bennington with 7:41 left.
Eureka pulled away from IW after takiing their first lead of the half, and the Tigers never got the lead back. Marvin Saintolien hit a 3-pointer to cut the Red Devil lead to two points, at 58-56 with 4:04 remaining, but the Tigers didn’t hit another field goal until an Alex Dentlinger three cut the lead back to four again, at 65-61, with 24 seconds remaining.
Austin Banks ended the game with 20 points and four assists to lead the Tigers. Dentlinger and Jake Neubauer scored 11 points each. Kaleb Cresswell had seven. Jett Tjaden scored six. Saintolien finished with five, and Jarryd Fernandes had four points and 13 reobunds.
The IW women trailed 23-21 after one quarter, 47-26 at halftime and 74-47 after three quarters.
Allie Massner and Morgan McCrea were hot from 3-point land, combining to go 9-for-15 from deep in the loss. Massner finished the night with 19 poitns and McCrea ended withe day with 16.
Harriet Fowler scored 15 points nad dished out a team-leading four assists. Sydney Farrar had four points and 10 rebounds, and both Maddie Williamson and Da’Jaah Swolley finished with four.
The IW men are now 8-13 overall and 5-8 in SLIAC play. The women are now 4-18 overall and 4-10 in the conference. Both teams will host Greenville University on Wednesday.
