WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. — The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team closed out its 2019 season last weekend with three road games. The Tigers defeated Principia College 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 on Friday, Nov. 1, and then dropped games to Fontbonne University (26-24, 25-17, 27-25) and Webster University (19025, 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 15-8) at the Webster quadrangular.
The Tigers picked up a 14-kill game from Lida Landre in their road sweep of Principia. Anna Leidl and Grace Thomas had six kills apiece, and Paige Kammerer had five.
Kammerer and Ariel Smale finished the night with 16 assists apiece. Jenna Murphy led the team with 15 digs, and Jaden Streeter had 13 digs.
The Tigers had nine service aces in the win. Smale and Streeter co-led the squad with three each.
In the Tigers’ three-game loss to Fontbonne, Landre had another big game, leading the squad with 14 kills. Leidl finished with seven kills and Thomas had four.
Kammerer and Smale finished the Fontbonne game with 15 digs and 14 digs respectively. Murphy finished with 16 assists.
The Tigers had another nice serving game, tallying eight aces against the Griffins. Kammerer led the way with six, while Streeter had the other two.
In IW’s five-set loss to Webster, Landre and Leidl each reached doubled digits in kills. Landre led the team with 16, and Leidl had 10. Smale dished out 33 assists, and Kammerer had 21.
Murphy led the defense with 36 digs in the win. Kammerer ended the game with 26.
The Tigers finished their season 10-19 overall. Their 6-12 overall mark was seventh-best out of the 10 teams in the conference.
Greenville won the regular season conference volleyball championship with a record of 17-1. Westminster finished 15-3. Webster went 14-4, and MacMurray was 12-6. Those are the four teams who will compete in the SLIAC tournament.
