GRINNELL — The Iowa Wesleyan women started slow on Tuesday night in Grinnell and the Tigers couldn’t get back into the game after the first quarter. Grinnell turned an early double-digit advantage into an 84-59 win.
IW had trouble defending the Pioneers, allowing over 20 points in the first three quarters. Grinnell led 21-9 after one quarter and 44-28 at halftime.
The Pioneers stretched their lead over 20 points in the third quarter. Grinnell doubled up IW 28-14 in the third quarter to take a 72-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.
IW was able to win the third quarter. Allie Massner scored four early points and six total in the period, and five different Tigers scored as IW took the fourth 17-12 to cut the lead by five.
Massner led the team with 20 points on the night. She had a nice night from beyond the arc, sinking three of her five free throw attempts.
Morgan McCrea went for 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Harriet Fowler hscored nine points.
Sydney Farrar ended the game with eight points for the Tigers. Maddie Williamson had six.
The Tiger women are now 0-5, still looking for their first win on the young season. They’ll host Principia College in their SLIAC opener on Tuesday, December 3.
