MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant baseball team outlasted Solon in a high-scoring affair on Monday night to close out its regular season schedule. The Panthers won knocked off the Spartans 12-9, winning eight of their final nine games of the regular season.
Mt. Pleasant started the scoring off with two runs in the first inning. Solon scored one in the third, but the Panthers added three in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
The Panthers held a 7-6 advantage after a wild fourth. Solon tied the game up at 7-7 in the fifth. The Panthers responded with five in the sixth, and the Spartans could only muster two in the final inning.
Nik Coble went deep again, going 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. Rylan Seberg finished the night three-fourths of the way to a cycle, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Clayton Lowery was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Jaxon Hoyle and Brennen Bender each knocked in a run, and both Corbin Broeker and Jack Johnson collected a hit.
Broeker picked up the win on the mound after going one and two-thirds innings in relief, giginv up two unearned runs on one hit and two walks, while striking out two. Jack johnson started the game and went five and one-third innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and four walks.
The Panthers finished the regular season 14-6. They wil host Ft. Madison in the CLass 3A substate quarterfinals on Friday night.
