KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant football team had to cancel their district contest at Keokuk on Friday night due to concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Mt. Pleasant Community High School currently has a handful of positive cases, and there is a rising positivity rate in Henry County. With the school still working through details, the Panthers cancelled their game “for precautionary measures.”
The game was set to be Keokuk’s homecoming game. The Chiefs tried to find a replacement on Friday but could not find one in time.
The Panthers are still 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in district play. They are scheduled to play two more regular season games; this Friday at Fort Madison and a home game against Burlington on Oct. 9.
The cancellation does not effect the Panthers’ playoff hopes, as all teams make the postseason. The Union will have more information on what this means for Mt. Pleasant football in Tuesday’s edition.
