New London crowns 7 champs

MEDIAPOLIS — Last Saturday’s wrestling sectionals saw area individuals advance to this Saturday’s districts and New London and Highland advanced as teams to Class 1A regional duals tonight.

New London had seven individuals crowned and two more take second.

First- and second-place finishers advance as individuals while teams that finish first or second advance as a team.

For New London, Jaxon Allen (35-9) took the title at 220. Currey Jacobs (34-9) was the 170 champion and Cameron Raines (37-6) was the 195 champion. Marcel Lopez (39-1) won the 113 title, Gabe Carter (41-1) captured the top spot at 160, Josh Glendening (43-2) was the champ at 120 and Dominic Lopez (42-2) was the titleholder at 138. Gavin Holmes (34-6) was second at 182 as was Owen Reed (35-1) at 285.

For Highland, Cael Yeggy (29-12) won the title at 182. Bryce Thompson (15-3) was the champ at 106. Easton Schlabaugh (30-9) was second at 113 as was Carlos Valenzuela (23-15) at 120. Eli Slaymaker (15-8) was second at 195.

Pekin’s Cael Baker (28-10) was the champion at 145. Bailey Frescoln (19-7) was second at 132 as was Michael Jones (33-6) at 138 and Mason Juhl (34-3) at 220.

Mason Dye (27-3) of Sigourney-Keota was the 126 titleholder. Jack Clarahan (29-7) was second at 152 as was Nate Schuster (24-13) at 160, Aidan Schuster (24-11) at 170.

For WACO, Jalen Collins (34-4) claimed the title at 132 as did Jaden Williams (36-4) at 152. Jonah Clark (24-10) was second at 145.

At Denver, New London will face Colfax-Mingo. The other two teams are Denver and Dyersville Beckman.

At Gilbertville, Highland faces Don Bosco. The other two teams are Wilton and Alburnett.

TEAM RESULTS — 1. New London 206.5, 2. Highland 164.5, 3. Pekin 155.5, 4. Sigourney-Keota 150, 5. Mediapolis 100, 6. WACO 98, 7. Cardinal 39, 8. Van Buren County 38.

Golden Hawks advance 6

WILLIAMSBURG — For Mid-Prairie, six individuals advanced at the Class 2A meet. Isaac Boucher (40-5) won the title at 195. Vinnie Bowlin (27-6) won the title at 152. Mason Hartley (19-17) was second at 145. Cael Garvey (38-6) was second at 160. Ben Meader (21-11) was second at 170. Cory Allen (37-10) was second at 182.

Mid-Prairie was third as a team with 169 points. Williamsburg won with 273 and Mt. Vernon was second with 187.
