KALONA — The New London basketball team bounced back from a sweep at the hands of WACO on Friday with two wins at Hillcrest Academy on Saturday. The Tigers ousted the Ravens in an SEISC cross-over doubleheader, winning the girls game 73-42 and the boys game 53-34.
The Tigers jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter of the girls game. New London led 23-6 after the first quarter and 36-18 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, New London held a 58-30 advantage.
The New London girls wre led by the trifecta of Layney Loyd, Kara Krieger and Marah Hartrick, who combined for 63 points in the win. Loyd finished the night with 23 points nad 10 rebounds. Krieger scored 22, and Hartrick had 18 points nad five steals.
Ashlyn McSorley ended the night with seven points, four assists and four steals. Emma Nye scored three points, and Natalie Burden finished the game with four steals.
Hillcrest received a 15-point performance from Esther Hughes. Mereditch Blossom scoerd eight points. Yani Gutierrez filled the stat sheet up with seven points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Sarena Gerber scored six points. Sarah Miller had four points and Danae McGaffey scored two.
The Tiger boys won each of the first three quarters. New London led 14-8 after the first quarter, 29-14 at halftime and 41-21 after three quarter en route to a 19-point win.
Despite the loss, Hillcrest’s Eli Ours scored 13 points. kobe Borntrager had nine. John Hughes scored five. Aaron Hershberget had four. Noah Miller scored two, and London Schrock had one. New London scorers are not available at this time.
