BURLINGTON — The No. 9 (2A) Van Buren County basketball team didn’t play on Tuesday night, but they still had one of their best nights of the season. That’s because No. 11 (1A) Notre Dame lost their final Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division game of the season, falling at West Burlington 61-51.
West Burlington jumped out to a 25-17 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Falcons had a huge night from Sydney Marlow, who scored 24 points to lead the way. Notre Dame’s Katy Stephens had 25 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
Van Buren’s final record in the SEISC South Division was 15-1, losing only to Notre Dame on the road. Notre Dame ended the year 14-2, with a home loss to VBC to go along with Tuesday night’s road defeat.
The Warriors will carry on that momentum to their regional first round game against Louisa-Muscatine on Saturday.
