Patterson's pitching performance not enough

Mid-Prairie lost a close softball contest Friday.

Montezuma downs Hillcrest

KALONA — The Ravens (0-11) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then trailed 3-1 in the top of the third before scoring in the bottom to make it 3-2. The visiting Braves (9-8) added runs in three of the next four innings.

Esther Hughes, Sarah Miller and Mia Braber each had two hits for the Ravens. Hughes hit a double and Grace Miller hit a triple.

Leah Bontrager gave up 13 hits, four walks and struck out five.

Camanche wins at Mid-Prairie

KALONA — Tarah Wehde of the Indians (5-6) held the Golden Hawks (1-11) to a single hit in this River Valley Conference game won by Camanche 2-0.

Abbi Patterson of Mid-Prairie allowed just two earned runs on seven hits, no walks and five strikeouts. Georgia Nisly had the lone hit.

VBC swept at home

KEOSAUQUA — Van Buren County (8-7) lost two games on senior night in a nonconference game against Davis County on Friday. (9-7).

The Warriors struggled in Game 1, collecting just four hits. Annabell Cormier went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the way. Chelsey Huff gave up 13 runs (five earned) on 15 hits to take the loss.

In Game 2, the Warriors had just four hits again. Ivy Davidson, an eighth-grader, had the biggest hit of the night, going 1-for-3 with a triple. Ally Cambell gave up five runs (three earned) on 11 hits, while striking out two Mustang batters.

Cardinal falls at Melcher-Dallas

MELCHER — The Cardinal softball team (10-6) had trouble scoring on Thursday night at Melcher Dallas (14-5). The Comets were defeated 5-3 to close out their regular season schedule.

Cardinal lost three out of their last four games in the regular season after going 3-0 in the three games prior.
