PACKWOOD — Belle Plaine took a 32-20 high school football win at Pekin Friday.
“Belle Plaine was able to grind out long drives in the second half and we weren’t able to get them off the field or have the ball much on offense,” Pekin head coach Bud Blakely said. “We kept playing hard and played hard all the way to the end. You can definitely see where we have continued to improve from early in the year. The scoreboard doesn’t show how much better we have gotten in the last month and you can see where some kids have really grown and become much better football players.”
Kennan Winn had a big night rushing and was in on many plays on defense, finishing with 12 solo stops. His 58-yard TD run brought Pekin within 14-10 in the second quarter. He finished with 138 yards on just 10 carries.
“I was happy for him with it being senior night,” Blakely said. “He works hard and does things the right way.”
Senior Levi Rohr two field goals, one from 40, which made the score 6-3 for BP, and one from 35, which brought Pekin within 20-13 before halftime.
“That kept us in the game early on,” Blakely said. “I was pleased with his kicking and glad his last game at Pekin was a successful one.”
