Pennington powers Mid-Prairie

WELLMAN — It wasn’t until the third quarter that the Golden Hawks had the boys basketball game firmly in hand Thursday in the Class 2A postseason, but a 21-4 advantage in the third helped change the 29-18 halftime score into a 65-35 Mid-Prairie win over West Liberty.

Jackson Pennington went 4-for-7 on 3-pointers on his way to a Mid-Prairie-leading 17 points. Alex Bean added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Hawks. Carter Harmsen notched 12 points as well. Aidan Rath grabbed seven rebounds. Harmsen and Pennington had three assists each.

Mid-Prairie (15-7) now plays Camanche (16-6) at 5:30 Tuesday at West Liberty.
