Fairfield goes 0-3 in Saturday tournament

MARION — The Fairfield High School volleyball team participated in the Linn-Marr Tournament Saturday.

The Trojans faced three ranked teams and lost each time.

The ninth-ranked team in Class 5A is Dubuque Hempstead (10-1-1) and it scored a 21-4, 21-9 win against Fairfield. Davenport Assumption (6-0) is ranked sixth in Class 3A and it posted a 21-13, 21-4 score. In Class 4A, Marion (8-3) holds down the No. 3 spot and it recorded a win by the scores of 21-14, 21-8.

“We played well,” Fairfield head coach Diana Drish said. “We faced tough blockers, big hitters and fast offense. The Trojans did not give up.”

Maddie Jones was 11-of-11 serving with an ace in the three Fairfield matches. Anna Dunlap registered five kills as did Olivia Jones. Ellie Anderson and Mallory Lyon connected for three kills apiece, Jones put up nine assists and Brynley Allison six. Lyon had three blocks and Allison two. Danielle Breen had 10 digs on the day. Kiya Robertson dug six balls. Olivia Jones had three.

The Trojans have a record of three wins and four losses on the season with their next action Thursday at Southeast Conference foe Fort Madison and then they will play in Ottumwa’s tournament Saturday.
